AFA15-700x630Meet some AFA Students & Graduates…

It’s always nice to hear from people who have gone before you. Here you can meet some current AFA students with advice on getting through your course as well as some graduates who have now forged successful careers in the fitness industry!

AFA Students on campus, during work experience placement and graduating!

Meet Craig

Craig is currently completing his Personal Training qualifications with AFA. Here’s some of his advice:

Why did you choose to undertake a fitness course? What are your career plans after you complete the course?

I’ve had a long fitness journey myself, coming from a background of obesity and I wanted to get into the industry and offer the benefit of my own experience and help others to achieve the results that I have. My career plans are to initially gain part-time employment in the industry and find out whether I can get enough work to leave my present employment and work full time. I am considering beginning a home-based functional fitness business to that end.

How have you found the online study environment? It’s great. Easy access and I can work at my own pace.

Is the online course delivery what you were expecting when you enrolled? Wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I am not disappointed.

What have you found most challenging while studying online? Managing my own time.

What course resources/services did you find most helpful? I loved having the podcasts available for lectures and the powerpoint notes as well.

What have you enjoyed while studying online? I’ve enjoyed the freedom to study at my own pace and the ready access to support when I need it.

What advice would you give to anyone starting an online fitness course with AFA? Make sure you budget your time well and stay on track with your study plan.

Any other comments you would like to add?… AFA have been very friendly and helpful and the online experience has been great.

Meet Luke…

Luke completed his Certificate III & IV in Fitness with Australian Fitness Academy in 2010. He was the 2010 AFA graduate of the Year!

Luke has since set up his own successful fitness business, Knockout Fitness and Boxing in Forest Hill.

Meet Attie…

Attie is currently completing his Personal Training qualifications with AFA. Here’s some of his advice:

Why did you choose to undertake a fitness course? What are your career plans after you complete the course? My son (Louis Pretorius) and I decided to start a boxing club. After searching the web we decided to educate ourselves as PT’s at AFA. This seemed to put us ahead of the other boxing clubs, as you do not need to be a PT to start up a boxing club. After searching our opportunities to do the Cert IV in fitness, we decided that AFA served our need the best.

How have you found the online study environment? With the support from AFA it is a sheer pleasure.

Is the online course delivery what you were expecting when you enrolled? No, I expected far less. The support, manuals, lectures and most other training material is very good and beyond expectation.

What have you found most challenging while studying online? The practical aspect was most challenging. Rocking up at the gym, 47 years of age, built like Asterix and all alone.

What course resources/services did you find most helpful? The open line to the Trainers at AFA is absolutely great. I did not have to wait to talk to a Trainer, there was always somebody available. The personnel at AFA are very friendly and supportive.

What have you enjoyed while studying online? The freedom to study whenever it suits me best.

What advice would you give to anyone starting an online fitness course with AFA? Treat your online study with the same respect as what you would treat fulltime study. Attend your studies as per your own study roster and do not skip your own classes, this will result in success and you will not fall behind.
