What were you doing prior to working in the fitness industry?
I am also an Occupational Therapist. I have worked in a range of clinical and non-clinical roles including acute hospitals, hand therapy and project roles. My most recent role was managing a team of therapists in the community health setting.
Where are you working now and what are is your role?
I am currently working as a trainer at Aquahub, a part of Maroondah Leisure. I am also working as a Sessional Teaching Associate at Monash University in the field of Occupational Therapy.
Why did you decide on a career in the fitness industry?
After an ongoing personal passion in a range of sports throughout my life and a strong connection with holistic health and well-being, I decided to formalise my knowledge through completion of Certificates III and IV in Fitness. I have a strong focus on holistic health and well-being in the area of health promotion and healthy lifestyle choices.
How have you found the transition between studying and working?
An exciting time! Actually, being out in the field and having the ability to impact on clients’ lives in positive ways is extremely fulfilling.
What do you love most about working in fitness?
Being able to live and breathe the lifestyle myself, and then share my passion and knowledge with others. Being able to empower others is the most satisfying feeling.

If you could give someone considering a career in fitness some advice, what would it be?
If you hold a passion for health and fitness and want to make a positive change to people’s lives, then just go for it. The industry needs positive and caring people to help clients of all areas in their health and fitness journey, and to be supported by the right people.
