Position Details
Title – Health and Fitness Instructor
Key Internal Relationships:
- Health Club Staff
- Group Fitness Staff
- Customer Service Staff
Key Result Areas (Primary Responsibilities):
1. Health and Fitness Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Work as a team member to provide the very best health and fitness advice, including through
- consultation, by creating a friendly environment.
- Conducting Health Consultations, Program Starts, Follow-Ups and Re-assessments
- Supervision of gym, giving technical advice, support and encouragement to customers
- Ensure all equipment and the facility itself is kept to agreed standards of quality, safety maintenance and presentation
- Support of membership retention and marketing strategies
- Complete, monitor and evaluate checklists
- Ensure customers conform with gym etiquette guidelines
- Attend staff meetings and staff training as required
- Performs other duties as required
2. Administration
- Ensure ongoing maintenance of customer records
3. Customer Engagement
- Provide a welcoming environment for all visitors to the centre with a smile and greeting
- Ensure customer concerns or queries are dealt with promptly
- Build a rapport with customers
4. Leadership
The following are applicable only to those qualified in Certificate IV in Fitness
- Capable of training and inducting new staff in Health & Fitness instructor position
- Behave in a responsible and positive manner at all times
- Conduct workshops / training sessions on exercise technique
- Conduct community education seminars related to Health and Fitness
- Able to perform basic leadership tasks such as rosters, reporting on KPI’s, lead retention programs
- Potential to step into an acting Health & Fitness Team Leader role
- Make recommendations to management regarding improvements to gym operations
- Able to deliver Personal training sessions
Position Specific Requirements
Mandatory Pre-Requisite Qualifications:
- Certificate III in Fitness or approved equivalent
- SIS40215 – Certificate IV in Fitness or approved equivalent (completed or working towards completion)
- Current Fitness Australia Registration, or approved equivalent
- HLTAID001 or HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- HLTAID003 or HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
- 20 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) every two years, in order to maintain your accredited Fitness Industry registration
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- Emphasis on courses relative to the groups that you predominantly work with (e.g. pregnancy, older adults)
- Interpersonal skills and an ability to deal with a diverse range of customers in age, culture, fitness histories and other backgrounds
- Specialist injury management knowledge (e.g. medical conditions, disabilities) will be highly regarded
- Minimum of 12-months relevant experience
