Topics Covered
The 8 Pregnancy Changes You Need to Know
Understand the 8 changes that have the greatest implications for your work as an instructor. For each change, you’ll learn what happens and how it impacts physical activity. Having this knowledge will help you appreciate the rationale for the guidance in modules 3 and 4.
The 4 Pains & Injuries You Need to Know
The changes you learn in Module 1 can lead to various pre & postnatal pains & injuries (and the guidance you give your members can go a long way in helping them prevent these issues, or potentially exacerbating them). We want to make sure you do the former! So, we’ll discuss the 4 most common pains injuries — Low Back Pain, Diastasis Recti, Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, and SI Joint Pain — including what causes them, how to spot them, how to help mitigate them, and why they are NOT exclusive to your pre & postnatal members.
Coaching Tips to Focus on
With the context from Modules 1 and 2, now we’ll pull this information together into some coaching tips that will enable you to confidently provide your pre & postnatal members a safe and effective workout. This module covers tips to focus on — emphasizing simple strategies that have the biggest impact. You’ll see how nearly all these strategies benefit every single person in class.
Modifications & Movements to Avoid
This module covers what to modify or avoid by trimester, and why. Because every individual is different, you’ll also learn simple tools you can use to help your members make the best choices for their bodies. In addition, because so many of the modifications are for core exercises, this module closes by teaching you core exercises that are highly beneficial for your pre & postnatal members (and everyone else in class too), so you’ll have plenty of core exercise alternatives to offer your pre & postnatal members (besides Bird Dog!).
Additional Resources
The final module provides additional resources to further support you, including:
- Beneficial Pre & Postnatal Core Exercise Library: This contains video demonstrations of over 30 beneficial core exercises that you can offer to pre & postnatal participants if the rest of the class is doing core work that is not appropriate for this population. These exercises are also great for the rest of the class too!
- Machine & Equipment Considerations Guide: This offers some important considerations and simple tips for common equipment used in group fitness – including rowing machines, bikes, ski ergs, reformers or Megaformers, kettlebells, TRX, and boxing bags.
- Additional Resources: Your course PDFs often contain links to additional resources for optional further learning. You’ll find a document that consolidates all these links.
