THE COURSE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR HPE TEACHERS
The professional development course has been designed specifically for HPE Teachers to obtain Gym Instructor and Personal Training qualifications (SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness and SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness).
Teachers obtain RPL based on their previous degree qualifications and employment experience. Your study will be fast-tracked as you only need to complete specific components of each qualification to become a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer.
This is the first and only course designed for HPE teachers to obtain the Certificate III and IV in Fitness. AFA have mapped the skills and knowledge of the PDHPE teachers to determine the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning).
This is a practical, professional development course that will enable you to conduct personal training sessions as a part-time job if you wish – an excellent additional income stream.
The qualifications will also enable you to assist your students and the wider school community to specifically meet their health and fitness goals.
Note that for NSW teachers the course has been accredited with NESA to contribute towards your professional development hours.
For recognition of prior learning, we will require the following documents to receive exemptions from the SIS30315 Certificate III and SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness. If you can please scan and email through the following documents:
- Physical Education degree or equivalent qualification – a copy of the academic transcript including the subjects completed
- Current first aid certificate – the likely unit code is ‘HLTAID003 Provide First Aid’
- Letter from Principal or Department Manager (on school letterhead) confirming current teaching role or Teacher’s Registration certificate
- Completion of the employment experience, authorised by your Principal or Department Manager
Once your documentation has been received your place in the workshop will be confirmed by email. For dates and locations of the workshops please refer to the Workshop Calendar.
The Certificate III & IV in Fitness are completed by participating in practical workshops and online study.
You need to complete 2 practical workshops plus the online study component and assessments within 3 months to obtain the Certificate III.
You can then commence the Certificate IV where you have a further 12 months to complete the workshops and online components.
We have found that many schools are prepared to contribute to the course fees or pay them in full because the qualifications can significantly assist the wider school community.
Under those circumstances, we provide your school with an invoice to cover the course fees.
If you are paying the fees yourself, an instalment plan can be arranged whereby you pay a minimum deposit of $300 then weekly or fortnightly payments to cover the remaining balance.
Please note, any payments you make can be claimed as a tax deduction.
Each workshop is capped at 15 participants and due to the limited number of dates, these get booked out extremely quickly. So please enquire to secure your spot!
Please refer to the Student Handbook for the payment terms and conditions.
The course can be completed by attending two workshops for the Certificate III in Fitness qualification (workshops 1 & 2), and a further two workshops with a small amount of online study for the Certificate IV in Fitness qualification (workshops 3 & 4).
The 2019 dates set for the workshops are as follows:
Sydney (Location TBC)
Workshop 1 2nd August (Certificate III – Part 1)
Workshop 2 16th August (Certificate III – Part 2)
Workshop 3 & 4 16th and 17th November (Certificate IV in Personal Training)
We offer hosting options! If you have 7 or more HPE/PDHPE Teachers interested we can arrange our presenter to bring the workshop to your School.
Contact us for more information.
Please note, we will more than likely be running additional workshops depending on course numbers, and you will have the option to change dates if suitable.
