Congratulations, you have taken the first step towards your goal of working in the fitness and health industry!
Now it’s time to start studying. The excitement to get started can cause you to take on too much too quickly and you may become overwhelmed. While motivation is key to successful study online so is careful planning, realistic goal setting and discipline. Here are some tips to help you get started with success and fly through your Online Personal Training Course.
1. Set up ‘Your Virtual Classroom’
An appropriate environment, away from distractions, is essential to successful study. Set up your computer so the top of the screen sits in line with the top of your head. If you work on a lap top make sure you set it up on a table (not on your lap on the couch). Simple actions like increasing text size for easier reading, ensuring your chair is appropriate, taking rest/stretch breaks every hour will see you succeed.
2. Get acquainted with your online course
Take the time to get acquainted with the online set up. Make sure you read the Course Introduction, watch the How to Videos and read the AFA Guide to online learning. Taking the time to familiarise yourself with the online environment and to understand your requirements and expectations will mean there’s no surprises down the track.
3. Consider your circumstances & set realistic study schedules
Online study is extremely popular as it allows people to fit study into their life. Taking the time to set a realistic study schedule at the beginning of your journey will save you plenty of time in the long run. Consider your family, friends and work commitments and where you will fit study into the life mix. Diarise your study schedule and treat it like any other appointment that you must attend.
4. Access the support offered through AFA
The AFA Student Support Services are available to help you through your course. Use them if you need them. You can Skype, email or call Student Support whenever you need any help at all. Whether it is a small question regarding an online article or some major help with your assessment, we are here to help!
5. Keep your eye on the prize
It’s easy to get caught up in study and assessments and forget the bigger picture. Don’t forget why you are studying in the first place. What’s your reason? For most people it’s to become a first class Personal Trainer and help people achieve their health and fitness goals. Don’t lose sight of this!
6. Get Practical
Use a local gym during your study – have a health assessment and re-assessments or get a Personal Trainer. Ask questions and get your Trainer to explain the muscles you are using throughout your training sessions and why you are performing certain exercises.
7. Finally, Motivation and discipline
It goes without saying that in order to be successful in studying online you need to be self-motivated and disciplined. Setting your goals and schedules as outlined above is easy, implementing them is the hard part – you must hold yourself accountable to them!
