The START Foundation has been created to assist others with disabilities to achieve their own sporting dreams and recognises the key benefits for people with disabilities participating in sport, including a sense of achievement, improvement of health, social interaction and community engagement.
START Foundation was established in 2013 through the inspirational story of Kerryn Harvey, who contracted a life threatening flesh eating bacteria as a result of a seemingly minor cycling accident. Radical surgery was required and a right forequarter amputation (arm and shoulder) was performed. Kerryn repeatedly battled against the odds and survived. Kerryn has been able to manage the challenges of her disability through the support of her family, friends and sporting networks, to once again participate in the sports she is passionate about.
In September this year Kerryn completed her Certificate III & IV in Fitness with AFA and we are now very pleased to be supporting the START Foundation.
It is the generous support of sponsors, donors and volunteers that enables START to provide grants for equipment, competition entry, travel and accommodation, coaching and guidance for recipients to plan and achieve their sporting dream.
START Foundation aims to support people with a physical disability, including vision and hearing impaired.
