Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you working now and what is your role?
Since completing my Personal Training Certificate III & IV, I am now a coach at Core Fitness and Lionfit Newcastle. I coach a range of class types including female only functional training, CrossFit, cardiovascular endurance training and flexibility classes within the gym. I also have a consistent and hopefully growing 1:1 and small group clientele base, with clients from ages 14-82. Whilst adoring my work, I am constantly trying new styles of training and intern coaching, allowing me to broaden my knowledge and experience professionally as an independent personal trainer and coach within the fitness industry.
Why did you decide on a career in the fitness industry?
I decided to work within the fitness industry as I have been an elite athlete since a young age. I am extremely passionate about all things health and fitness and am set on guiding and inspiring as many people/clients as I can to live a healthy, progressive, active, happy life through showing them that exercise is for absolutely everyone.
Why did you choose to study with AFA?
I chose to study with AFA as the aspect of online study was appealing to me as I had just finished high school and was working two jobs. Studying only allowed me to easily complete my study at a time that suited me best. I had also heard great reviews about AFA’s content and structure of their learning program – that was another added bonus.
What course did you study and how did you find it?
I studied the Certificate III and Certificate IV in Personal Training at AFA. I found them both awesome courses to complete – each course had extremely interesting and relevant content that was directly transferrable into my personal training work. After completing my studies, I felt confident to get straight into the industry and be employed as a Personal Trainer.
How have you found the transition between studying and working?
I have found working as a personal trainer and coach to be my passion and I feel that this couldn’t have become my career without the help of AFA’s study. The transition between study and work was quite seamless as I was employed almost immediately post study. This was the best possible outcome for me as a graduate, as I was able to continue my learning journey through my experiences as a Personal Trainer in the industry.
If you could give someone considering a career in fitness some advice, what would it be?

Start studying and truly define what you want in life; Where you see yourself career wise and make your dream a reality – work towards goals that scare you. Once you are finished your studies don’t wait for the right moment, you have to create the right moment in order to continually succeed in life.
