Winter can be a tougher time to get motivated to train. The days are shorter and the motivation to get up early in the morning when it’s pitch black, or get home from work and it’s pitch black makes a big difference, especially people who like to get outside and do their exercise. Here are some tips to help!
- Be Organised
Pack everything ready to go in the morning, the night beforehand. To remove any barriers. So you just get up and you’re ready to go.
- Warm up
Extended warm-ups to get those joints warmed up especially in those cold mornings is important for injury prevention.
- Safety First
Pick safe places that are well lit with others around. Be aware of safety in the dark ie don’t wear the Melbourne uniform of all black, wear something reflective with brighter colours.
- Consider a Gym Membership
If you have a gym membership across Winter it can be a welcoming escape from the elements and remove the above mentioned obstacles to training. Plus, having other people training alongside you can be motivating in itself!
- Train with a Friend
Following on from our previous point – finding a friend or someone who has similar goals to you, to gym together can not only help with accountability to stay on track, but also make your workouts more enjoyable.
- Set Goals
If you need further motivation to keep yourself going through winter, set specific goals like a fun run, or an activity to achieve alone or with a friend will keep you on target through the winter time.
- Reward Yourself
Giving yourself some sort of reward system can help you motivate you to exercise. Winter can be a good time to splurge on some warm fitness clothes to get you motivated to workout!
