Responsibilities:
As a Gym Attendant, in addition to your core responsibilities, you may be asked to perform some or all of the following duties, depending on the type of shift.
Fitness Instruction:
- Design and implement personalised exercise and fitness plans for members, as requested.
- Respond to questions and guidance on equipment use.
- Monitor members for proper equipment use and encourage proper gym etiquette.
- Provide additional support to members with special needs or disabilities.
Facilitate Group Fitness Classes:
- Design and conduct classes as per the class timetable schedule for Gym Attendants.
- Pre-class – prepare for class as needed, set up audio.
- Class – instruct participants, providing range of options based on varying fitness levels or individual needs.
- Post-class – respond to any outstanding questions; ensure own and others’ equipment is packed away; check equipment; secure room (as needed); report incidents (as needed).
- Help set up and break down equipment for group fitness classes.
Safety and Operations:
- Maintain cleanliness of the reception area; regularly clean and sanitize gym equipment, surfaces, and common areas.
- Provide lifeguard supervision and perform emergency rescues.
- Monitor the swimming pool and surrounding areas.
- Conduct scheduled pool tests and assist in pool plant operations.
- Enforce safety rules and regulations.
- Inspect, clean, and report any malfunctioning equipment to management.
- Perform light maintenance tasks and report facility issues via Archibus.
- Undertaking routine safety checks and ensuring all people on premises comply with all safety requirements. Taking corrective actions as required.
- Report all incidents and hazards via RiskWare.
- Report suspicious or unauthorized activities to management or security personnel.
- Administer first aid to patrons, members of the public at the facility and other staff as needed.
Administration and Customer Service:
- Provide customer service, answer questions and assist with membership inquiries.
- Conduct and reconcile cash transactions.
- Handle telephone, email and in-person enquiries professionally.
- Update and maintain membership records and databases.
- Check membership cards or credentials for authorized facility access.
- Assist new members or guests with the sign-up process and explain membership options.
- Prepare correspondence, documents, signage, and notices.
- Execute opening and closing procedures for the facility.
- Assist in planning and promoting health and fitness events.
Core responsibilities:
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed on policies and procedures.
- Manage operation of gym work in absence of Gym manager.
- Use initiative and judgement, dedicating full attention and effort to job responsibilities during work hours.
- Enforce the “Code of Etiquette” for the gym and pool.
- Follow SCU Staff Code of Conduct.
- Regularly check staff email, memos or other communications.
- Maintain accurate time sheets and submit in a timely manner.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by management to ensure smooth operation of the centre.
Work Requirements:
- Nationally-recognised Life Guard Certification (including Frist Aid certification).
- Fitness Industry Certificate IV.
- Working with Children Check.
